When it’s hot outside it can be hard to keep drinks cold. You pack them in ice but once you take out a soda or beer to enjoy it’s wet from the ice and starts sweating and warming up from the heat. No fun!
There is an easy solution: grab your fabric scraps or fat quarters and whip up some can cozies!
Live Event on YouTube on Monday, June 1, 2026.
I will be showing you how easy these are to make in a Live Event at 8 pm Eastern / 5 pm Pacific. Click here to go to YouTube and click the “notify me” button on the bottom left of the video picture so YouTube reminds you before the event.

MATERIALS
- (2) 11" x 5" fabric*
- (1) 10 ½" x 4½" fusible fleece
- (1) 10 ½" x 4½" Insul-Bright batting (optional)
- (1) 4" length sew in Hook & Loop tape
* Both the exterior and lining fabrics need to measure 11″ x 5″. You can use a single fabric or multiple fabrics for the exterior, just make sure it measures 11″ x 5″ before you start sewing the cozy.

Easy to make, easy to use

These can cozies fit standard 12 oz soda and beer cans. You wrap them around the can and secure with the hook & loop tape (commonly called Velcro® but that’s actually a brand name).
If you include a layer of Insul-Bright® batting, the cans stay cool longer than with fusible fleece alone.
Insul-Bright is a heat-resistant, needle-punched polyester batting featuring a reflective metallized film, designed to reflect energy (hot or cold) back to its source.
Can Cozies are great for:

A day at the lake or beach
Picnics or Barbecues
Family Reunions
Handmade Gifts
Holidays (Memorial Day, Father’s Day, 4th of July, Labor Day)
Parties and Events

Personalize cozies
There are lots of ways to personalize a can cozy and make it match an event, celebrate a gift recipient and more.
• Use themed fabric
• Add names, initials or event details
• Machine Embroidery
• HTV (heat transfer vinyl) with a Cricut or other cutting machine
• Use pre-made or custom made iron ons
• and more
Sew and Sell Ideas
Because a soda or beer cozy is made with all straight cut fabric and a few simple materials, you can make a lot of them efficiently.
• Sell them in sets of 4 or 6 with family barbecues in mind.
• Sell sets for holidays.
• Offer personalization if you sell online.
• Offer personalization if you sell in person if you have a regular booth, like at a farmer’s market, where people can order and then come back to pick up a week or two later.
