Tara Reed combines a degree in business with a lifelong love of making.

Tara Reed is a sewing educator, sewing pattern designer, fabric designer, and creative entrepreneur. Through TaraReed.com, her YouTube channel, and her Etsy shop, she helps beginner and intermediate sewists learn new skills, complete easy sewing projects, use fabric scraps creatively, and build confidence at the sewing machine.

She has been licensing her art since 2004 and to Riley Blake Designs for fabric since 2019. With over 21 years of experience as an entrepreneur, Tara also shares the business side of creativity for those looking to sell the things that they sew.

AT A GLANCE

Proudly partnered with Riley Blake Designs since 2019

Helping beginners build confidence with sewing machines, fabric selection, and foundational skills.

Helping makers understand how to sell handmade items and sewing projects.

Creative ways to use fabric leftovers and small cuts.

Creative chaos is better than idle neatness

If this motto speaks to you – we should be friends!

I shared a room with my older sister and she would have preferred my motto in reverse. I always thought I was messy until I left home and realized it was more that my mom, dad and sister were incredibly NEAT.

It’s hard to be perpetually neat when you have so many creative ideas in your head and supplies in your life!

More Than Just Sewing

01

what I'm about

I’m all about creativity, kindness, integrity and authenticity. Being a mom has been my biggest accomplishment.

02

you might be surprised to know

• I have no formal art training, I have a degree in Marketing from Penn State.

• I don’t know my right from my left instinctively – I really have to think about it.

• I spent my junior year of high school abroad in Tours, France (sadly my French is very rusty – it’s been awhile!)

03

some things I love

Broadway Musicals, true crime, learning new things, history, chatting with family & friends, and funny memes.

04

Licensing my art since 2004

In 2000 I started licensing my art in the scrapbooking industry but didn’t realize that is what I was doing… I officially entered the art licensing industry in 2004. See photos through the years from my first 20 years. I’m now solely focused on designing fabric for Riley Blake and teaching sewing and quilting online.
