☘️ Easy Sewing for St Patrick’s Day: Make Placemats in a Snap with a Fabric Panel

Top of the mornin’ to ya!  The Irish in me is dancing a jig I’m so excited to break out these placemats for March!

The 6 placemat designs for March and Saint Patrick’s Day are the latest installment of the Monthly Placemat Program I created  for Riley Blake Designs.

The placemats include 3 with artwork and 3 with art and quotes: Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, In this house we create our own luck and Friends & Family can always be found at the end of the rainbow.

Shamrocks, rainbows and pots of gold hand painted in watercolors will make these perfect for your table all March long. If you’re Irish you will love the shamrock trio and shamrock rainbow all year long.

Just because they are designed as placemats doesn’t mean that’s all you can do with them – that’s the beauty of sewing, so many options. Use the designs for quilts, pillows, wall hangings and more.

This video is less than a minute and gives you a quick peek at the placemat designs and coordinating shamrock prints.

Time Saving Way to Sew Placemats

I was short on time to sew these together and had to make a choice: traditional binding and simple quilting or simple placemat assembly and some fun free motion quilting. (You can probably guess which I chose just by the way I described my options!)

I layered batting – back fabric face up – placemat fabric face down and sewing them all together. Then I turned, pressed and topstitched around the edge before doing some free motion quilting.

See my blog post with 🎥 video tutorial for more specific instructions on making placemats without binding.

Not Just for Placemats

Just because they are designed as placemats doesn’t mean that’s all you can do with them – that’s the beauty of sewing, so many options. Use the designs for quilts, pillows, wall hangings and more.

Happy Sewing & Happy St Patrick’s Day!
