Sewing for Beginners: How to sew a Tote Bag with a Pocket

If you are looking for a cute but simple bag to make to hold your things, make for a gift or sew and sell – this tote bag with a front pocket is just what you need!

Golf Tote Bag and Golf Days fabrics

I was getting ready to head to a quilt show and decided I should have a bag using one of my most recent fabric collections. This tote is made from my Golf Days fabric designed for Riley Blake Designs. I decided to keep it pretty neutral using an argyle for the main print. I added some scraps of selvage to the top of the pocket for added interest.

The finished size of the bag is 16″ wide x 13″ high x 5″ deep. For extra stability you can add a piece of cardboard or use the bottom of a reusable grocery bag cut to size but the fleece makes it hold it’s shape quite well without it.

Depending on how intricate you do your quilting, these bags can be whipped up in a few hours and are a great sewing for beginners project.

If you make this or anything else with my fabric and post it online – tag me so I can see it!  I love to see what people create.
