I’m excited to introduce you to my first fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs – Homestead Life.

This collection of quilting fabric features 15 designs including 4 patterns in multiple colorways and a panel with six placemat layouts. (I’ll be sharing other ways to use these panels in future posts – stay tuned!)

Growing up I was always interested in genealogy and my family’s history. My maternal grandmother was as well and I have fond memories of spending time with her looking at charts and talking about the stories behind the names.  One that intrigued me the most was the story of the farm she grew up on and how it came to be in the family.

Her father came to America from Ireland in 1847, during the Great Famine, at the age of 24. He went to California during the Gold Rush and found enough gold to return to PA and purchase the farm my grandmother grew up on.  The photo of my grandmother at age 6 (circa 1917)  has long been my favorites.

I loved thinking about my grandmother and what her life must have been like while painting and creating the Homestead Life collection.  I hope it helps you connect with cherished memories as well!
