HOW TO SEW A DRAWSTRING BAG WITH A HEART QUILT BLOCK

💌❤️ Sew a sweet heart drawstring bag for a Valentine’s Day gift bag that will be as appreciated as whatever you put inside. Measuring in at a finished size of 7″ x 9″ x 2″ there are lots of things this bag can hold! (What will you put inside? Let me know in the comments)

The heart block used in the bag is the 4″ block size. Click here for the heart block tutorial on my blog which has all the measurements for 5 size blocks and a video tutorial. If you’re new to quilting, his is a great quilt block for beginners to see if you it.

🧵 The fabric used in this tutorial is my “Red February Flower Toss” from Riley Blake Designs – part of the Monthly Placemat Panel series.

2 Drawstring Bags with Hearts

This style of drawstring bag has 2 pieces of fabric sewn on the outside of the bag to form a drawstring chanel which becomes part of the “look” of the bag.

I usually use 2 fabrics for this bag – one for the heart, channel and lining and another for the rest of the bag outside. See how simply reversing the fabrics changes the look!

📝 You can make a bag with (2) fat quarters, (2) ¼ yards or fabric scraps if you have the right sizes.
