Growing up I was always interested in genealogy and my family’s history. My maternal grandmother was as well and I have fond memories of spending time with her looking at charts and talking about the stories behind the names. One that intrigued me the most was the story of the farm she grew up on and how it came to be in the family.
I loved thinking about my grandmother and what her life must have been like while painting and creating the Homestead Life collection. I hope it helps you connect with cherished memories as well!
Her father came to America from Ireland in 1847, during the Great Famine, at the age of 24. He went to California during the Gold Rush and found enough gold to return to PA and purchase the farm my grandmother grew up on. The photos of my grandmother at age 6 (circa 1917) have long been my favorites. (change to singular if you just use one of the pics)
