I’ve seen tutorials that call for anything from light weight interfacing to stiff interfacing to go inside the fabric layers. This would make the fabric pockets stiffer but I don’t think it’s a necessary step since the nail file will provide the structure.
I’m all for fewer materials and quicker sewing times for projects like this!
You can further personalize the nail file holders by adding the recipients name, monogram or initial. Machine embroider before cutting the fabric or add whatever you’d like with HTV using a Cricut or other cutting machine.

MATH & MATERIALS
You can make these little fabric sleeves in any size. Here’s the basic math and some done-for-you math for the most common sizes of nail files.
(4 x file length) + ½” = length of fabric
(2 x file width) + ½” = width of fabric
For a standard 7″ nail file: 2 ½” x 28 ½”
For a short 3 ½” nail file: 2 ½” x 15″
